Trends can be a weak spot when it comes to shopping…We should keep in mind that we need to have a sustainable mindset and resist temptation. Here are some tips on how you can buy less, shop more effectively, and make use of your existing clothes.

  1. Never go shopping without a targeted list and a clear idea of what you need, to pull outfits together. Whether your budget is Primark or Prada the principles are the same, don’t stray from your list and take your time.

  2. Think. I rarely buy a piece on the same day I try it on. I think about where I can where it, what it will work with in my wardrobe and whether it compliments my style. It’s better to have a gap in the wardrobe than a guilt-ridden gap in your bank account.

  3. Ask. Before you make a decision about a piece, ask yourself this question: Can I wear this piece with at least 3 already existing pieces I have in my wardrobe? If the answer is no – don’t buy it.

  4. Make sure your lifestyle matches your wardrobe. If you don’t go out at night partying, then don’t buy a party dress and super high heels. – as attractive as they may look.

  5. Consistency. Try and identify what items don’t work for you anymore, remove those items and start to see if a more consistent style is coming through and keep your focus when you go shopping. An easy way to identify your style is to create a mood-board. When all the items are collected you can easily spot consistencies and common themes such as colours, silhouette styles or individual pieces you love.
