Who is Cher?

Cher is an American singer and actress who got her start as part of a singing act, with her husband Sonny Bono in the 1960's.

Her career rose when hitting No.1 with the single, I Got You Babe, before starring together on the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour.

Cher actually had a difficult early life, being raised solely by her mother, who was also a model and an actress, in San Fernando. The family struggled financially, with Cher being placed in an orphanage at one point in her life, while her mother was looking for work. Nonetheless, she knew from a young age that the world of the arts and entertainment spoke to her and took up acting as part of her extracurricular activities.

Rising Up

Sonny and Cher have a countercultural bohemian style and continued to release singles. In the early stages of Cher's career, the combination between bell-bottoms and fringe could be the most '60s pairing ever. This look is so synonymous with the times.

Cher begun to create an early image and was one of the first artists to ever prescribe a signature look to their music style. Music and fashion suddenly begun to develop connections.

In the first (of the many) jaw dropping red carpet looks at the Oscars, Cher attended the awards with her newly made husband. This became a signature look for Cher.

Iconic enough that many replicated.

Bob Mackie asked when assigned with dressing Cher for an appearance on The Carol Burnett Show with Sonny in 1967. Mackie after that was served as the show designer.
